Company’s normal hours of work are from 8.00am until 5.30pm on Monday to Friday with half an hour break for lunch. Any additional hours worked would be agreed by prior arrangement. The minimum will be 30 hours per week.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- To be responsible for keeping all company equipment (i.e. tools etc) clean, tidy and easily accessible at all times
- To be responsible for keeping all stock tidy and easily accessible at all times
- To stock check all consumables and tools periodically as requested by a manager
- To note and report any worn or potentially unsafe equipment in the log provided
- To use the provided protective equipment to customer’s premises where appropriate i.e. dust sheets etc.
- Observe all aspects of health and safety and implement where necessary. I.e. use of PPE (personal protection equipment) as provided. Safety boots and work wear should be worn at all times and goggles, ear defenders, face mask and gloves where appropriate
- To bring to the immediate attention you your manager any worn/unsafe or mislaid items of PPE for replacement
- To observe and assist your manager with your continuous “on the job” training
- To perform tasks set by your manager and report back to verify that they have been completed to the company’s required standard
- To attend college for additional training as appropriate and to apply that training in the workplace as and when necessary
- Discuss with your manager any sections of the course that may be unclear
- Maintain a professional and tidy manner at all times

- Identify and document hazards for the plumbing and domestic heating systems work. Apply control measures.
- Carry out commission and handover procedures and techniques on plumbing and domestic heating systems (cold water, hot water, central heating, sanitary appliances, and rainwater).
- Install, test, and commission, electrical and electrical control systems applicable to plumbing and domestic heating systems.
- Perform routine service, maintenance, fault diagnosis and rectification procedures and techniques on the non-electrical components of plumbing and domestic heating systems.
- Perform routine service, maintenance, fault diagnosis and rectification procedures and techniques on electrical and electrical control systems applicable to plumbing and domestic heating systems including industry safe isolation procedures.
- Decommission plumbing and domestic heating systems.

- Install, purge, test, commission and handover low pressure natural gas systems (up to 35mm R1¼) and natural gas fired hot water and central heating appliances (up to 70kW net heat input).
- Perform routine service, maintenance, fault diagnosis and rectification procedures and techniques on low pressure Natural Gas systems (up to 35mm R1¼) and Natural Gas fired hot water and central heating appliances (up to 70kW net heat input).

Training schedule
- 6 of your contracted working hours per week will be spent on training
- Training will be covered by day release, as well as being in the workplace
- Common forms of training include completing written assignments, meetings with your assessor, being mentored and shadowing other members of staff
- Throughout your apprenticeship you will be required to keep an off-the-job training log for any training that you complete
- You will complete the Level 3 Plumbing & Heating Technician apprenticeship for which you will receive either a grade Pass or Distinction
- In addition if you don't have maths and English qualifications at grade C/4/Level 2 or equivalent you will be required to undertake Functional Skills alongside the apprenticeship, at Level 2 if you are 16-18 or if required by your employer if you are 19+.
- Once per week, term time only you will be required to attend East Sussex College's, Eastbourne campus, for day-release
- In the college holidays you will go to the employer's instead unless you have booked Annual Leave
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade 4)
- Maths (grade 4)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

- Driving licence preferred but it is not essential - Uniform clothing will be provided -An ability to be polite and talk appropriately with customers, working in their homes and respecting their property

A local family limited company, MPH have been operating for some 25 years covering the local area. They provide plumbing and gas engineering for their large and loyal customer base. Also a Worcester Bosh Approved Installer, accredited for some 10 years plus.
