Summary

We are seeking an Apprentice Paint Sprayer to join our team. You will learn the key skills required to be a part of the paint spraying and finishing teams: preparing items for painting, by filling, de-nibbing and sanding and paint spraying to high standards.

Wage

£15,704 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Salary: Apprentice aged 16-18 £7.55 per hour. Apprentice aged 19-20 - year one at £7.55 per hour and £10.00 after first year. Apprentice aged over 21 – year one at £7.55 per hour and £12.21 when they have completed the first year.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

The areas you will be trained in are covered by the syllabus but will include:

  • Prepping surfaces to be painted, including metal, mdf and plastics
  • Sanding down panels using different grades of paper
  • Masking parts up ready for paint, prime and filling
  • Working with different mediums including: polyester spray filler, primers. lacquers etc.
  • Light repair work and polishing
  • Work within a small team and be conscientiously job-proud
  • Assist spray finishers
  • Prepare various furniture materials such as veneers / hardwood / MDF for spray finishing
  • De-nibbing/fine sanding products between spray coats
  • Mixing paints from a scheme
  • Preparing and spray painting
  • Health, safety & environmental compliance of all activities during painting & finishing
  • Maintenance of all plant & equipment used in association with the finishing process to ensure they remain fit for purpose and safe to use
  • Reporting regularly on progress
  • To assist in maintaining the working environment in a clean and safe condition
  • Packaging & labelling

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Ability to undertake appropriate job preparation prior to commencing repair e.g. substrate surface preparation, paint volume calculation etc
  • Ability to correctly identify the substrate materials to be refinished e.g. plastic, steel, aluminium etc
  • Ability to interpret relevant technical data and methods to create paint manufactures specified application
  • Ability to use refinishing materials following paint manufacturer specifications to reinstate vehicle finish back to high quality
  • Ability to identify and operate the correct repair tools, equipment and devices used in the process e.g mixing systems, paint booths, UV lamps and spray equipment

Training schedule

  • We will work with the apprentice to gain the necessary skills and experience to become a qualified paint sprayer
  • There will be a requirement to attend on-site training 2 days each month at our training providers facilities in Peterborough
