Summary
This is an entry level position for the Version 1 Network administrator team, where you will be given the opportunity to join a high performing network team, supporting various customer within our ASPIRE Managed Service Practice.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
You will manage various Level 1 tasks while gaining invaluable key skills alongside accomplished and knowledgeable teammates. Growth and personal development are skills that will be applied in this role.
If you’re driven to learn, you’ll finish your first year having developed skills on the job that you would not get in any other Level 1 role in the country.
You’ll gain experience working with both staple and cutting-edge technologies, such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, and leading network providers; Cisco, Palo Alto, FortiGate.
You’ll also benefit from a career plan outlined by the network management team, with clear objectives tracked quarterly to make sure both you and your manager are happy with your performance and development plans to upskill on the job.
Tasks will include:
- Managing customer requests and responding to incidents, i.e. firewall rule changes, network access, basic diagnosis, upgrades, escalation of complex issues, etc.
- Monitoring customer systems for critical alerts and ensuring they are dealt with efficiently
- Maintaining and supporting customer network systems such as firewalls, switches, routers, etc.

- Install and configure network components.
- Implement tools and techniques to monitor, identify, analyse and record systems performance in line with defined specifications.
- Maintain security of the network against potential threats.
- Apply tools and or techniques to gather information to troubleshoot issues and or isolate, repair or escalate faults.
- Communicate outcomes of tasks and record actions in line with organisational procedures.
- Upgrade, apply and test components to systems configurations ensuring that the system meets the organisation’s requirements and minimises downtime.
- Interpret information and or specifications received from a manager, customer or technical specialist and accurately implement the defined requirements.
- Implement techniques to optimise systems or component performance in line with defined specifications.
- Apply the required level of responsibility when organising and prioritising work tasks, clients’ or stakeholders’ requests in line with SLAs and organisation processes.
- Explain their job role within the business context to stakeholders to enable a clear understanding on both sides of what their remit is and convey technical constraints.
- Operate securely, and apply process, policies and legislation within their business responsibilities.
- Configure and maintain network addressing in line with customer requirements.
- Ensure compliance of network engineering outputs with change management processes including Secure Access Service Edge SASE or Zero-trust networking .

- Module 1: Foundational Network Systems & Connectivity
- Module 2: Network Performance, Security & Troubleshooting
- Module 3: Advanced Network Concepts & Strategic Operation
Your training plan:
- An apprenticeship includes regular training with JBC Skills Training
- At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying
- You will be appointed a skills trainer who will meet with you remotely every 6-8 weeks for reviews and support with your Summative Portfolio work

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
