Summary

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice Fire and Security Engineer at Render Alarms – based in the Middlesbrough area. There is an excellent opportunity to progress and grow within the company for the right candidate who is enthusiastic and keen to learn new skills. Ongoing training will be provided.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

The apprentice role will involve the installation and repairs along with the maintenance of both fire and security systems to include: intruder alarms, fire alarms, CCTV and access control systems.

Duties will include:

  • Attending site visits with an Engineer
  • Carrying out 1st fix and 2nd fix for the installation of fire alarm systems, intruder alarms, CCTV, access control systems etc. (pulling cables through and affixing equipment to walls)
  • Use of hand tools, cordless drill and testing equipment on site
  • Fault finding and repair of systems
  • Liaising with customers on site visits and completion of site paperwork
  • Working to company procedures and following all health & safety guidelines

Applicants should be willing to attend day release at Access Training based on Team Valley, Gateshead (one day per week/fortnight). 

The successful applicant must be able to travel to the Middlesbrough based office each morning for a 9.00am start.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Comply with safety legislation, codes of practice, risk assessments, method statements, safe systems of work and apply control measures.
  • Complete functionality tests of systems and components during commissioning systems.
  • Apply and implement system design, planning and installations including additional components to existing systems.
  • Carry out takeover procedure, diagnose and repair faults.
  • Operate ICT equipment and systems to store, retrieve, manipulate, transmit or receive digital data and electronic information.
  • Comply with environmental and sustainability, regulations and standards.
  • Complete functionality tests of systems and components during handover of systems.
  • Carries out risk assessments.
  • Communicate with others verbally for example, internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers using sector specific terminology.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, as part of a team. Consult and engage with occupants or others who are or could be affected by work (for example vulnerable, older, and disabled people) and respond appropriately.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders using sector specific terminology through written means.
  • Plan and install systems cabling.

Training schedule

  • The successful applicant will work towards the Fire, Emergency & Security Systems Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard
  • Will be required to attend day release at Access Training on Team Valley, Gateshead (this may be 1 day per week or 1 day per fortnight dependent upon the phase of the course you are in)
  • Please note the day of delivery may change dependent upon the phase you are in (there are now 5 phases)

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)
