Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Establish a supportive and motivational relationship with the pupil(s) concerned.
- Establish good relationships with students, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs.
- Supervise and support students, ensuring safety and access to learning.
- Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students.
- Encourage students to interact with others and engage in activities led by teachers.
- Attend to the student’s personal needs, including social, health, physical and welfare matters.
- Drawing on knowledge of various forms of special needs, to develop an understanding of the specific needs of the pupil concerned.
- Taking into account the special needs involved, to aid individuals to learn as effectively as possible both in group situations and on his/ her own.
- To encourage acceptance and integration of pupils with special needs.
- To develop methods of promoting/ reinforcing pupils' self-esteem.

- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.
