Work

What you'll do at work

Your duties may include but are not limited to:
Main Duties/Key Tasks:
- Greet patients, doctors and visitors at Reception in a polite and friendly manner
- Answer the telephone promptly and courteously
- Make appointments using the computerised appointments system
- Administer the procedure for repeat prescriptions
- Open and sort all Medical Centre post, both internal and external.
- Ensure the smooth running of all surgeries and clinics
- Arrange hospital appointments where relevant e.g. x-rays, out-patients
- Receive patients' specimens ready for pathology laboratory collection
- Deal with general enquiries from patients and visitors in a helpful and efficient manner
- Collate and sort paperwork from GPs and other Practice staff, and deal with accordingly
- Inform patients of computerised test results, in person, on the telephone or by letter
- Support colleagues to maintain an efficient and friendly team atmosphere

- In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters
- They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately
- In the performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, Practice staff and other healthcare workers
- They may also have access to information relating to the Practice as a business organisation
- All such information from any source must be regarded as strictly confidential
- Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the Practice may only be divulged to authorised persons, in accordance with the Practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data
Health & Safety:
The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others’ health, safety and security as defined in the Practice Health & Safety Policy, to include:
- Using personal security systems within the workplace according to Practice guidelines
- Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks.
- Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
- Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
- Reporting potential risks identified

Training schedule
Training to be provided in relation to a Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship by Milton Keynes College.

Desirable qualifications
GCSE in:
- Maths (grade 9-4)
- English (grade 9-4)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements
This role is subject to a disclosure and baring service check; it will be necessary for a submission for a disclosure to be made to the DB service to check for any previous criminal convictions. Also, you need to be aware that patient confidentially is extremely important. Please also consider how you will be able to travel to work - a driving license is considered an advantage. Please note that if you possess an A Level in Business, BTEC in Business Level 2 or above, you will be overqualified for this position. Candidates must be 18 or over in order to apply for this role.
