Summary

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, passionate and motivated apprentice, with a keen interest in the education of early year’s children, to join our small very successful, vibrant and happy village school. We will provide an opportunity to widen existing skills and to develop new ones.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Work closely with the Reception & KS1 class teachers to enhance the learning opportunities of the class, groups and individuals
  • Learn to support children with a variety of additional needs, as they complete the transition from nursery into school
  • Learn to record the children’s learning journeys
  • Actively participate in children’s learning both in and outside of the classroom
  • Support some whole school, outdoor play sessions throughout the week

  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Training schedule

As the successful apprentice you will undertake an Apprenticeship in Level 3 to include assessment in Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours of a Teaching Assistant, and completion of your End Point Assessment.

During your time on the apprenticeship programme, you will also be expected to complete and document 20% training. As an apprentice, you will learn on the job by working alongside experienced teachers and support staff who will guide and mentor you throughout your training. You will have the opportunity to observe best practices, ask questions, and gradually take on more responsibility as your confidence and skills develop. This hands-on experience will be complemented by formal training, giving you a well-rounded understanding of the role and preparing you for a successful career in education.

The Apprenticeship will be delivered by South Gloucestershire & Stroud College over 18-24 Months.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

Maths & English (grade 4-9)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
