Summary

Are you a self-starter who is looking for a career in finance? This role will work as part of a small finance team and see you gain experience in both the purchase and sales ledgers as well as processing invoices, orders, credit notes.

Wage

£15,704 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

You will receive full training in all aspects of your role.

  • Raise purchase orders
  • Create, process and dispatch invoices
  • Process payments
  • Record invoice payments
  • Review bank statements and perform daily reconciliation
  • Assist the team in preparing financial reports, models, forecasts and budgets
  • Respond to invoice relate queries via telephone and email
  • Support annual audit activities
  • Manage accruals, prepayments and journal postings
  • Conduct credit checks and set up credit accounts for new clients
  • Monitor and report on cash flow and debtor days
  • Review, analyse and communicate cost centre reports
  • Administer and issue petty cash
  • Ensure accurate filing and archiving of financial documents and records both physically and electronically
  • Collate data for EU VAT reclaims on fuel
  • Prepare and dispatch accurate monthly statements to clients
  • Provide support to the wider administration team as required

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Training schedule

This programme is delivered via a day release delivery model which means that one day per week, your attendance is required at our Derby Road Campus (NG18). This attendance is required during term time only.

You will work with expert assessors and tutors to develop new knowledge, skills and behaviours within the profession.

You will experience a blended learning model.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

There will be progression opportunities at level 3 and 4 with this apprenticeship. You can complete an accountancy degree through apprenticeships.
