Summary

A driven, self-motivated and enthusiastic member of the Finance Team responsible for carrying out the day to day tasks and control functions required covering both management and financial accounting with minimum supervision. Level 2 or 3 Accounting Apprenticeship (subject to candidates current academic level).

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Purchase Ledger Administration including:

  • Accurate coding and posting of invoices onto the system in line with budget holder expectations and budget worksheets
  • Conducting weekly purchase ledger runs
  • Liaising with suppliers and budget holders to resolve queries or discrepancies
  • Maintaining an efficient recording and filing system

Completion of daily interfacing routine including:

  • Importing of daily transactions from Finova
  • Reconciliation of control accounts
  • Processing CHAPS, BACS and Faster Payments as required and posting of all payments to the cash book
  • Returning unallocated customer standing order receipts within SLA as per internal instruction, requesting bank details from the Society’s Clearing Bank as and when necessary
  • Completion of daily bank reconciliations for the Society’s main current account (No1 Account) and the Society’s cheque clearance accounts (Cheque Banking) ensuring all items are accurately and timely posted and reconciled in line with procedure manuals and SLAs

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4/C or above)
  • Maths (grade 4/C or above)
