Summary
We are currently seeking to appoint an aspiring finance professional to join our hard-working and friendly Finance team as a Finance Business Support Apprentice. You will work alongside the wider team to support the responsibilities of the Finance/Accounting Service and to provide an accurate and timely general administrative service.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Supporting the management of financial resources, to ensure probity, efficiency, high performance and overall value for money
- Understanding customer needs and provide them with a service they value
- Supporting delivery of the Financial Strategy and Final Accounts
- Supporting the finance function by producing high quality financial information
- Assist the Finance team to maintain financial systems and processes ensuring proper reconciliation and control procedures are in place
- Assist in the implementation of requested changes including testing new or enhanced functionality
- To include processing of journals and accounts payable and account receivable invoices as required
- To assist with enquiries for officers, members, partners and members of the public
- To support and undertake the accountancy financial control function
- The daily processing of bank statements and allocation of income
- To assist with procurement, Insurance, VAT and any other accounting duties as required
Within assigned service areas/budget specialism, assist the service accountant to provide budget holders with the required information to support the development of financial plans and management of their budgets - Support the financial management of the Capital Programme
- Co-ordinate and deliver the timely information to support the Financial Strategy as requested, in accordance with the agreed timetable
- Prepare financial and performance data, for inclusion in management reports
- To assist in the delivery of information to support the annual accounts closure programme as requested and in accordance with the agreed timetable assigned service areas/budget specialism, assist the service accountant to provide budget holders with the required information to support the development of financial plans and management of their budgets
- Ensure the accurate and timely completion of returns and questionnaires as required
- Contribute to reviews and assist in the implementation of changes required as a result of new legislation or changes in policy

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
- Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
- Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
- Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
- Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
- Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
- Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
- Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
- Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Training schedule
- This is a full-time position and will also include on the job training with the team.
- This apprenticeship will lead to a level 3 Assistant accountant apprenticeship.
- You will be based at Wyre Forest District Council in Kidderminster
- Training is one day a week

This apprenticeship is ideal for someone who is seeking a career in Finance. The successful candidate will be based on an initial 3-month probation period to establish if the candidate is capable and enjoys the role before committing to the apprenticeship.
