Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Fitting / replacing pipe work, valves, pumps, walkways & hand railing and steel structures
- Decommissioning and stripping out plant rooms, boilers, pipework, heat exchangers and other mechanical mechanisms
- Within the water and wastewater industry installing penstocks, open mesh walkways, biogas pipework, storage tanks and scraper systems
- On site fabrication of metal parts and features, grinding and welding e.g. steel plates and frames for isolations
- Test mechanical systems, equipment, apparatus using testing devices such as vibration sensors and infra-red cameras, to ensure compatibility and safety of systems
- Inspect mechanical systems, equipment and components to identify hazards, defects and the need for repair
- Complete works as directed by site supervisors and project managers
- Assemble, install, test and maintain mechanical equipment, appliances, apparatus and fixtures, using hand tools, test equipment and power tools
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance on pumping systems equipment
- Complete Point of Work Risk Assessments
- Ensure clear understanding of RAMS
