Summary
We are looking to recruit a Removals Operative Apprentice based at our Scarborough depot. As an apprentice, you’ll work as a removals operative and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff whilst completing your 13-month, level 2 apprenticeship with an award-winning trainer.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
The role involves working as part of a team of removal operatives to pack and load household effects from residential addresses for delivery locally and nationally.
This position would suit a person with a strong work ethic and has a flexible approach to working hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely move/unpack/pack customer's belongings by utilising all the correct moving equipment and techniques, following the necessary prescribed policies
- Ensure the collection and correct labelling of all items for auction
- Handle fine art and antiques using the correct techniques providing necessary care and attention where necessary
- Ensure the upmost care is taken with clients, public and third-party possessions
- Ensuring the cleanliness and general upkeep of the site and vehicles
- Unloading and loading vehicles

- Follow procedures in line with health and safety regulations, standards, and guidance.
- Comply with Industry specific regulations and legislation relating to the moving and handling of items for example, inland domestic moving, commercial moving, overseas moving, and storage.
- Identify and document hazards and risks in the workplace. Complete risk assessments. Apply control measures to manage risk.
- Organise and prioritise own work in line with permitted time allowances.
- Apply standard operating procedures (SOPs) and policies.
- Apply team working principles.
- Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance. Segregate resources for reuse, recycling, and disposal.
- Select packing materials appropriate to the individual task.
- Follow processes for moving, handling, packing and unpacking items.
- Load or unload identified goods.
- Use manual handling techniques and equipment, for example, lifting equipment, vehicle ramps or platforms.
- Direct the movement of vehicles or mechanical handling equipment (MHE).
- Use tools, machinery, and personal protective equipment (PPE) following manufacturers instructions.
- Follow company procedures and quality standards, for example housekeeping, clean equipment and machinery, and keep work area tidy.
- Dismantle and reassemble items using tools and equipment in line with company policy.
- Record or enter task information - paper based or electronic.
- Use information technology and digital systems. Comply with GDPR and cyber security.
- Communicate in writing with others for example, clients, colleagues, and managers.
- Communicate with others verbally for example, clients, colleagues, and managers.
- Follow equity, diversity, and inclusion principles.
- Carry out and record learning and development activities.

After month 9 of your apprenticeship, you are entitled to do a free bolt-on course delivered by the British Association of removers.
You can decide with your employer which one is most appropriate to your job role.

Upon successful completion of your Removals Operative Apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to progress onto the LGV Apprenticeship, enabling you to obtain your HGV licence and pursue higher earning potential.
