Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Assist with the completion of finance-related tasks, including invoicing, budgeting and expense tracking
  • Support the current finance administrator in daily financial operations and reporting
  • Undertake general office administration duties, including filing, data entry and document management
  • Learn and understand the roles and responsibilities of the finance administrator and office administrator
  • Collaborate with team members to assist with various administrative tasks and projects
  • Maintain an organised and efficient office environment
  • Respond to enquiries and provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders
  • Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Source and migrate data from already identified different sources.
  • Collect, format and save datasets.
  • Summarise and explain gathered data.
  • Blend data sets from multiple sources and present in format appropriate to the task.
  • Manipulate and link different data sets as required.
  • Use tools and techniques to identify trends and patterns in data.
  • Apply basic statistical methods and algorithms to identify trends and patterns in data.
  • Apply cross checking techniques for identifying faults and data results for data project requirements.
  • Audit data results.
  • Demonstrate the different ways of communicating meaning from data in line with audience requirements.
  • Produce clear and consistent technical documentation using standard organisational templates.
  • Store, manage and distribute in compliance with data security standards and legislation.
  • Explain data and results to different audiences in a way that aids understanding.
  • Review own development needs.
  • Keep up to date with developments in technologies, trends and innovation using a range of sources.
  • Clean data i.e. remove duplicates, typos, duplicate entries, out of date data, parse data (e.g. format telephone numbers according to a national standard) and test and assess confidence in the data and its integrity.
  • Operate as part of a multi-functional team.
  • Prioritise within the context of a project.

Training schedule

  • Data Technician Apprenticeship Standard Level 3, including Functional Skills if required
  • You will learn the knowledge, skills & behaviours which will support you for your end-point assessment
  • You will take part in a combination of activities, such as face-to-face classroom-based sessions, remote learning sessions, work shadowing and online learning, to support your learning and development
  • You will be required to undertake training sessions with Avant Skills Academy every other week, throughout the length of the apprenticeship
  • At the end of the on-programme learning, you will be required to undertake an End-Point Assessment (EPA) to demonstrate you have met the occupational standard

  • An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation
  • At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4 or above)
  • Maths (grade 4 or above)
