Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Assist in the fitting, assembly, and machining of components to precise specifications.
- Learn and operate manual lathes and milling machines.
- Work with engineers and technicians to understand technical drawings and specifications.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environment.
- Ensure quality control standards are adhered to and meet all engineering specifications.
- Attend training sessions and learn new skills related to engineering and machining.
- Carry out preventative maintenance on our machines, especially with reference to older models.
- Contribute to project tasks and support senior engineers in their work.

Training schedule
Apprentices will attend the Leek Campus on a weekly basis. They will also be visited in the workplace regularly by their college instructor-mentor, who will complete observations, professional discussions and ensure the apprentice makes good progress with their studies.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade 4 or above)
- Maths (grade 4 or above)
