Summary

We are looking for a new bookkeeper/accountant to join our small team. The role will heavily be focused on bookkeeping with compliance work on the accountancy side. As we are a small firm there will be opportunities to be trained in all areas of the business such as administration, company secretarial, payroll and tax advice side of the business.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual bookkeeping for clients utilising several different software. You will as part of your training, obtain certification in most of the software.
  • Drafting VAT returns to review level by our bookkeeping lead, including completion of job completion checklists.
  • Reconciliation of client balance sheet accounts, both ad hoc on request from clients and for the accounts team.
  • Completion of personal and business tax returns for review
  • Completion of annual accounts for review.
  • There will be other tasks linked to the above and other office duties which will be requested from time to time.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Your training plan

1 day a week at Northampton College, plus on-the-job training which will be heavily weighted in the first 3 months towards bookkeeping and then spread out to compliance and all other areas of the office.

We are not a firm with an attitude of here you go, do this, we are very much train, train, train as this is the only way people develop. Training will be provided by everyone in the firm, including the director.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 3)
  • Maths (grade 3)
