Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

We’re offering a full-time role at our friendly and growing Thatcham office, where you’ll start your career as an Internal Sales Executive / Sales Engineer. This is an entry-level role with full training provided – so no previous experience is needed!

You'll work closely with our Sales and Operations teams, speaking with new and existing customers by phone and email, helping them find the right solutions. As you gain confidence and experience, there’s the opportunity to move into a more senior external sales role in the future.

  • Talking to customers and helping them with their needs
  • Building relationships and learning how to generate new business
  • Managing your own accounts and helping the wider sales team
    Keeping track of everything using our simple online systems
  • Working towards team and personal targets – with support along the way

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Use a range of questioning skills, including listening and responding in a way that builds rapport, determines customer needs and expectations and achieves positive engagement and delivery.
  • Depending on your job role and work environment: Use appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication skills, along with summarising language during face-to-face communications; and/or
  • Depending on your job role and work environment: Use appropriate communication skills, along with reinforcement techniques (to confirm understanding) during non-facing customer interactions.
  • Depending on your job role and work environment: Use an appropriate ‘tone of voice’ in all communications, including written and digital, that reflect the organisation’s brand.
  • Provide clear explanations and offer options in order to help customers make choices that are mutually beneficial to both the customer and your organisation.
  • Be able to organise yourself, prioritise your own workload/activity and work to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate patience and calmness.
  • Show you understand the customer’s point of view.
  • Use appropriate sign-posting or resolution to meet your customers needs and manage expectations.
  • Maintain informative communication during service recovery.

Your training plan

You would work towards the Customer Service Practitioner Standard, attending group training at WBTC one day a month and with a 1-1 monthy training and review meeting.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4 or C)
  • Maths (grade 4 or C)

Set up in 2001 Intelligent Group Solutions Ltd (IGS) is a specialist company focusing on providing a unique blend of services to customers requiring optoelectronic components, sub-assemblies and or finished product. All the senior staff have been involved with the Optoelectronics industry for at least 25 years and are dedicated to ensuring that IGS is an innovative and highly successful company. Currently IGS have 5 active Divisions: IDS (displays), IES (embedded), ILS (LED), IHS (horticultural, and IPS (prototyping and production). Each have individual websites for you to check out.
