Summary

Support the finance team with bookkeeping, credit control, expenses, order processing, stock and systems management, and admin tasks. Gain hands-on experience with invoicing, MRP software, and monthly reporting in a dynamic on-site role at EPS Nottingham.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Bookkeeping: Assist in the processing and entering of all incoming and outgoing invoices into the accounting software and allocating to open projects
  • Credit Control: Sending statements to customers and chasing debtors when required
  • Petty cash management: Ensuring receipts reconcile, and complete monthly tracking
  • Expenses claims: Processing & reconciling company credit card expenses
  • Order processing: Liaising with the production team to raise and track customer and supplier orders through the MRP software
  • Liaising with freight agents to arrange the import and export of goods internationally
  • Assist in the management of the MRP system through the processing of production route cards and stock management
  • Supporting the finance team with producing monthly and quarterly financial reporting
  • Administrative Support: Providing general administrative support to the accounting department, such as filing, data entry, and scanning

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Your training plan

The Level 3 Assistant Accountant apprenticeship standard includes 6 AAT exams, in addition to the Synoptic Assessment as part of the End-Point Assessment (EPA) process.

The knowledge units will be delivered at the EMA training hub in Derby, Leicester or Nottingham (depending on the apprentices’ location) through day release.

AAT Modules are as follows:

  • Introduction to Bookkeeping (Level 2 Unit)
  • Principles of Bookkeeping (Level 2 Unit)
  • Management Accounting Techniques

Financial Accounting:

  • Preparing Financial Statements
  • Business Awareness
  • Tax Processes for Business

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

5 GCSE's including Maths and English (grade 5/B or above)
