Summary

An exciting opportunity to join Hoveton & Wroxham Medical Centre as an Apprentice Administrator/Prescription Clerk. The successful applicant will undertake a wide variety of administrative duties supporting our Dispensing and Admin Teams.

Wage

£13,741 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

30 minutes lunch break each day (unpaid) 15 minutes tea/coffee break each day (paid) Breaks are usually taken together as a 45 minutes break daily.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

We need an individual who is motivated, can demonstrate initiative and attention to detail and who is prepared to listen and learn.  In return we can offer you comprehensive training, a pleasant working environment and the opportunity to be part of a team that values excellent patient service.

Duties may be varied from time to time under the direction of the Dispensary Lead. Daily duties will include:

To support the delivery of a high-quality admin service to patients, carers and others visiting and/or otherwise contacting the Practice, in particular:

  • Adhere to current practice Standard Operating Procedures and Protocols regarding the processing of prescriptions
  • Receive and transfer prescriptions
  • Assist with handing out medication appropriately to our patients, depending on staffing levels
  • Process prescription requests from repeat, secondary care and as per GP request
  • Deal with patient enquiries both face to face, via electronic message and over the telephone
  • Ensure that patient queries regarding medication are highlighted to the relevant GP
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to patient needs e.g. queues, confusion, sickness, calling for help as and when required to do so
  • Assist with the picking of medications awaiting dispensing
  • Date check medication stock as needed and record accurately
  • Remove uncollected medications. Phone or send sms to patients about collecting prescriptions if needed
  • Liaise with local pharmacies, care homes and other healthcare professionals appropriately
  • Use the Practice clinical system (SystmOne) to process and record information in an accurate and timely fashion in accordance with Practice policies and procedures. Ensure up to date patient information is recorded
  • Always adhere to patient confidentiality

About this company

We are a friendly practice located near the Norfolk Broads offering services to approximately 10,000 permanent residents, and the many people that come to the central Broads area during the summer months. We have six GP's (4 male and 2 female) and 4 Nurse Practitioners as well as Practice Nurses and Healthcare Assistants. We are a teaching practice and offer training for Registrars and Medical Students and are also registered to undertake research activities. We are constantly looking at ways to improve our performance so that we offer the best service possible to our patients. We have an active Patient Participation Group who helps us to review and develop our services.
