Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Duties to include but are not limited to:
- Assisting with roof installation – understanding different roofing systems and how to lay different roofing systems including traditional slate, tile and fibreglass
- Assisting with cutting materials in preparation for roof installation
- Assisting with the installation of technical elements such as weatherproof flashings and solar panels
- Assisting with removal and preparation; stripping off old roof materials and preparing new roof with breathable membranes and timberwork
- Handling materials and tool; carrying and organising tools and materials, maintaining tools and cleaning up work areas, learning to safely use hand and power tools
- Learning Health and Safety Practices; following health and safety protocols, especially when working at heights, wearing proper PPE
- Team support: working as part of a team under supervision, communicating effectively with colleagues and other trades, performing general labour and clean up duties on site

- You will be working towards a Level 2 Roofer Apprenticeship Standard
- You will receive on and off-the-job training and support from an assessor and an Apprenticeship advisor
- You will be required to attend Cornwall College St Austell on a weekly basis as part of the apprenticeship training

GCSE in:
- English (grade 3/D)
- Maths (grade 3/D)
