Summary

As a Governance Officer Apprentice, you'll work towards a Level 4 Governance Officer apprenticeship standard which is accredited by the Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland (CGIUKI). The apprenticeship is approx. 21 months and will give you an excellent grounding in the skills and knowledge required in governance.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Some of your key duties will include:

You'll work with our supportive and friendly team to complete all of the apprentice tasks, objectives and training which will enable you to:

  • Provide support to committees and key stakeholders by organising, preparing, attending and minuting meetings
  • Learn and develop your knowledge of governance, regulation and compliance to ensure good corporate governance practice
  • Maintain and renew insurances (such as cyber, employment and property liability insurance) for Novuna
  • Build relationships with different areas and teams across Novuna

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Interpret regulation, legislation and governance practices and advise and train stakeholders on its practical application.
  • Establish, maintain, and influence relationships with key stakeholders and team members.
  • Use IT systems to manage, share and store information in accordance with regulatory requirements and organisational policies and procedures.
  • Communicate complex information through a variety of media to enable key stakeholders to understand what is required.
  • Review instructions, following them to a conclusion through the execution of tasks.
  • Identify and use precedents adapted for specific circumstances such as resolutions, announcements, reports.
  • Produce work which is factually accurate and well presented for submission to the members of a decision-making governing body and for publication by the organisation.
  • Develop and maintain structure charts for the organisation.
  • Plan and prioritise their workload to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain and organise forward looking plans and calendars, keeping relevant stakeholders informed of upcoming events such as meetings, reporting timetables, compliance deadlines.
  • Gather, analyse, use, and share data to inform the decision-making process and make judgements on actions to take.
  • Identify problems and present potential solutions to stakeholders.
  • Respond to stakeholder questions and requests, knowing when to consult with others or escalate on matters of a more complex or sensitive nature.
  • Identify and implement improvements to support the governance of the organisation.

Your training plan

You'll have time fully dedicated to off-the-job learning and will be supported by your line manager, team and our training provider, who have a programme of formal training sessions.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 6)
  • Math (grade 6)
