Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

You’ll gain hands-on experience in a supportive environment, working alongside expert teachers and teaching assistants who will guide and mentor you throughout your apprenticeship journey.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils’ learning under the direction of a class teacher.
  • Build effective relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
  • Encourage and manage positive behaviour in the classroom.
  • Help support children’s intellectual, physical, emotional, and social development.
  • Assist in planning and preparing learning activities and classroom resources.
  • Work with small groups and support children with SEND.
  • Safeguard pupils by following school policies and procedures.
  • Assist on school trips and educational visits.
  • Stay up to date with professional best practice.
  • Intimate care.
  • First Aid (Appropriate training will be provided).
  • Behaviour management (Appropriate training will be provided).
  • Working with children with SEN and high-level needs (Appropriate training will be provided).
  • Administering medicine (Appropriate training will be provided).

  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

  • Functional Skills Level 2 in English and maths if not exempt.
  • The training and qualifications are based in the workplace, no attendance at college required.

GCSE or equivalent in:

English/ Maths (grade A*-C/ 9-4)
