Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

As an Apprentice Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning at Grace Cook Primary School. You will be part of a committed and inclusive team that places the child at the centre of everything we do. The apprenticeship offers structured training, mentoring, and hands-on experience, enabling you to work toward becoming a qualified Teaching Assistant, while contributing meaningfully to the learning environment of our school.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work under the direction of the class teacher to support individuals and small groups of pupils in their learning.
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of learning activities.
  • Provide support for pupils with SEND and/or specific learning needs.
  • Help prepare resources, displays, and learning environments.
  • Support pupils during break and lunch times as required.
  • Promote positive behaviour and uphold the school's behaviour policy.
  • Observe and report on pupil progress to the class teacher.
  • Work collaboratively with staff across the school to support a consistent learning environment.
  • Support the inclusion of all pupils in the full life of the school.

Purpose of the Role:

To support the learning, development, and well-being of pupils across the school while undertaking a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship. This is an opportunity to gain practical experience in a vibrant and supportive school setting while developing the skills and knowledge needed to qualify as a teaching assistant.

  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Your training plan

  • The learner will be studying the Teaching Assistant Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard qualification.
  • Functional skills will be studied if equivalent qualifications are not held.

Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

Maths and English (grade 4-9)

After this apprenticeship

Upon successful completion of the Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship, the apprentice will be a fully qualified Teaching Assistant, with both practical experience and a nationally recognised qualification. While the apprenticeship offers excellent training and experience, employment is not guaranteed at the end of the programme. However, successful apprentices are often strong candidates for school-based roles, either at Grace Cook or within other settings.
