Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Assist in the delivery of individual learning plans and EHCPs, providing targeted support in class and through evidence-based interventions
  • Build positive, supportive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and promoting self-esteem, motivation, and independence
  • Use a variety of strategies and resources to ensure full curriculum access for all children, adapting support as needed
  • Attend to pupils’ personal, social, and health needs, and develop strong partnerships with parents and carers
  • Deliver planned activities to individuals or small groups, ensuring a clear understanding of lesson objectives
  • Contribute to planning, assessment, and evaluation of learning activities in collaboration with teachers and support staff
  • Keep accurate records of pupil progress and provide clear, objective feedback
  • Implement structured learning activities, adapting them to meet pupils’ needs and responses
  • Support national and local learning strategies (e.g., literacy, numeracy, EYFS, KS1), and encourage pupil engagement with ICT
  • Prepare and manage resources to support effective teaching and learning
  • Follow school policies on safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality, and data protection
  • Promote inclusion and equality, supporting the school’s ethos and values
  • Collaborate with staff and external professionals, attend relevant meetings and training, and support pupil supervision during breaks, clubs, and school trips

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4 - 9 or equivalent)
  • Maths (grade 4 - 9 or equivalent)
