We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team.This Apprenticeship will teach you that tilers need to work with great precision and work to the requirements of the client. Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
During the Level 2 Apprenticeship in tiling, you will learn various aspects of wall and floor tiling skills including:
Work Methods - This is where you will learn how to handle your tools of the trade and how to work safely in accordance with Health and Safety legislation. You will also learn different methods and techniques for working with various materials.
Identify and Respond to Customer Needs - Being a good tiler is not just about having the skills needed to cut and create various patterns. You need to be able to listen to customers and take on board what they want. You will learn different listening and questioning techniques for this.
Construction Industry and Building Methods - You will learn different methods depending on the types of buildings you are working in. For example, different methods and materials for commercial properties compared to heritage work.
Product and Specification Information - You will learn how to interpret technical data and how to prepare and work with different materials.
Preparation and Application and Removal - You will learn how to estimate the number of tiles that might be required for particular wall and floor tiling jobs. You will also learn about difficulties that may arise and how to deal with them - tiling wet rooms, for example, or tiling with underfloor heating.

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Follow procedures and comply with health and safety regulations, standards, and statutory guidance.
- Identify and use personal protective equipment (PPE), respiratory protective equipment (RPE) and dust suppression.
- Comply with risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
- Use access and work at height equipment, for example step ladders, podium steps, hop up safety platforms.
- Plan order of works and carry out pre-installation checks.
- Protect work area and adjacent finishes.
- Prepare and maintain working area.
- Select and use wall and floor tiles such as ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, agglomerate and mosaics tiles.
- Calculate required amounts of tiles, materials, and resources for the work requirements.
- Select and use substrate primer.
- Set out for tiling wall and floor areas.
- Measure, mark and cut tiles including cutting around obstacles and using laser levels.
- Fix wall and floor tiles.
- Install electric under-tile heating.
- Install decoupling membranes.
- Install tanking systems.
- Apply adhesives in preparation to fix tiles to wall and floor surfaces.
- Grout and finish tiles that are fixed to wall or floor areas.
- Complete final inspections and workplace documentation.
- Complete a customer or site manager handover.
- Select, check, and use hand, power, cutting tools and measuring equipment.
- Move and store hand, power and cutting tools, measuring equipment and materials.
- Read and interpret information from manufacturers guidance and other sources, for example from drawings, specifications, digital documents, or work instructions.
- Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations. Segregate resources for reuse, recycling, and disposal.
- Ensure materials are used efficiently and sustainably.
- Apply team working principles.
- Communicate with others verbally for example, colleagues and stakeholders.
- Remove wall and floor tiles.
- Carry out and record learning and development activities.
- Identity substrates and prepare for tiling using renders, levelling compounds and screeds.
- Rectifies defects and damages.

Your training plan
An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.
