Pay starts at the national apprenticeship rate, with regular reviews as you progress. You’ll also receive overtime pay, hydroblast job bonuses, and travel or overnight allowances where applicable.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Assist in routine maintenance and servicing of hydroblasting and line marking vehicles
- Carry out safety checks and inspections before vehicles are deployed
- Help diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults
- Clean and maintain hydroblasting nozzles, pumps, and other specialist components
- Support the setup and calibration of high-pressure water systems used on-site
- Learn how to operate hydroblasting and line marking equipment under supervision
- Travel with the team to job sites across the UK, gaining field experience
- Work alongside experienced technicians to understand vehicle systems and best practices
- Record maintenance activities and assist with keeping service logs up to date
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures while working in the workshop and on-site

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Carry out the basic tasks with tools and equipment common to all procedures involving basic mechanical and electrical procedures related to HV
- The ability to keep updated with emerging new technologies within the HV industry.
- Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop and adhere to the company and legislative processes.
- Access specific and related HV technical information appropriately.
- The ability to service, inspect and maintain HVs and trailers to meet company, Driver and vehicle standards agency (DVSA) and manufacturers’ standards.
- Use a range of diagnostic and electrical measuring equipment to identify faults and underlying causes on HV’s.
- Successfully inspect and prepare vehicles and trailers to meet DVSA standards prescribed in the tester’s manual.
- Carry out final quality checks before handover to the customer without supervision.
- Apply advanced diagnostic principles and logical/problem solving techniques and regimes.
- Maintain records to company and operators’ licence obligations and regulation.
- To be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written mediums both internally and with customers on a range of topics that will support, HV inspection and diagnosing techniques.
Your training plan
Training will be delivered through hands-on experience in the workplace and off-the-job training with our approved training provider.
On-the-job training will occur at our central depot, where the apprentice will work alongside experienced technicians on hydroblasting and line marking vehicles.
Off-the-job training will be delivered in block release or day release format at Hartlepool College, confirmed as part of the apprenticeship induction.
Training will typically be one day per week or in blocks every 6–8 weeks, depending on the provider’s schedule and curriculum.
All travel to off-site training will be supported and scheduled to avoid learning or operational duties disruption.

Other requirements
You’ll spend time working in the workshop as well as on site across the UK, supporting a mobile team. The role involves outdoor work in all weather, manual handling, and using specialist high-pressure equipment. Early starts, occasional overnight stays, and travel are part of the job, with all necessary training, PPE, and support provided.
