Morris Green Auto’s Ltd is offering an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Motor Vehicle Technician to join our experienced team. This apprenticeship provides hands-on experience in a busy automotive environment, where you will gain valuable skills in vehicle servicing, maintenance, and repair.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

As an apprentice, you will develop expertise in the following areas:

  • Servicing – Performing routine vehicle maintenance to ensure optimal performance.
  • Maintenance – Identifying and replacing worn-out components before failure.
  • Repair – Diagnosing and fixing faults using industry-standard techniques.
  • Technical Skills – Using diagnostic, mechanical, and electrical measuring equipment to identify vehicle issues.
  • Vehicle Preparation – Inspecting and preparing vehicles for mechanical work.
  • Component Work – Removing, repairing, and replacing parts according to specifications.
  • Health & Safety – Maintaining a safe working environment by adhering to industry regulations.
  • Customer Service & Admin – Assisting with job card updates and communicating effectively with customers.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop. Segregate waste for disposal or recycling. Comply with industry environmental legislation.
  • Demonstrate due regard for own safety and that of others in the workshop and minimise risk of injury and vehicle damage.
  • Carry out fundamental tasks associated with removal and replacement procedures on a vehicle.
  • Obtain diagnostic and repair information.
  • Interpret diagnostic information and use electrical wiring diagrams to determine system serviceability.
  • Use a range of diagnostic equipment.
  • Follow recognised diagnostic procedures, logical diagnostic sequence and apply advanced diagnostic principles and problem-solving techniques to establish faults.
  • Report faults using company procedures and recommend suitable further actions.
  • Follow recognised repair procedures to complete a wide range of repairs including those which involve complex procedures, or in depth knowledge.
  • Test the function of repaired and fitted components.
  • Adhere to business processes and complete documentation following workplace procedures.
  • Use ICT to create emails, word-process documents and carry out web based searches.
  • Complete a range of services and inspect and prepare a vehicle to the required quality standard for handover to the customer.

Your training plan

This apprenticeship includes off-the-job training at Bolton College, with at least 20% of working hours dedicated to studying. You will work towards achieving the Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (Light Vehicle) Apprenticeship Standard (ST0033).

More training information

  • One day per week at Bolton College.
  • Functional Skills Level 1 in Maths and English (if required).
  • Before completion, all apprentices must hold a certificate meeting the EU’s 2014 F-gas regulation.
