Are you enthusiastic and hard-working, seeking to become a paralegal? As the first point of contact you will be a friendly face to welcome our clients. Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Answering telephones, dealing with voicemails
- Welcoming clients to the office
- Scanning documents
- Archiving files
- Filing Deeds, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Wills
- Photocopying
- Opening new matters and setting up files
- Post and Banking
- Legal Research
- Typing legal documents via Dictation
- Petty Cash- doing the monthly record
- Storage of Client ID photocopying, storing away

What you'll learn
Course contents
- assist in administering procedures using most effective channels to progress caseloads.
- conduct legal research using selected sources such as legal databases.
- solve legal technical problems within their remit and escalating as needed.
- present findings from legal research in line with organisational expectations.
- assist in applying the principles of Law to stakeholder cases.
- assist with legal matters and transactions within the organisation.
- communicate using plain English to provide clarification and explanation of the legal process and standard legal terms.
- organise and administer workflow such as legal files, case management and accounting systems to progress work within service level expectations.
- carry out file management activities such as prepare and collate bundles, take and file accurate notes, close and review files, maintain databases and version control.
- use a range of digital tools and technologies, for example to draft legal documents, conduct legal research, carry out data analysis and collaborate with others.
- apply fraud protection measures and cyber security procedures in relation to transactions, keeping up to date with approaches.
- undertake activities to ensure a clear picture of a stakeholder’s needs and risks throughout legal transactions.
- assess risks and benefits to the stakeholder of different options and making recommendations to senior team members to ensure that they work in the stakeholders’ best interests.

Your training plan
- You will be pursuing a Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard as a Paralegal, through Weston College
- As part of this program, you will attend Weston College as instructed by the college
- An assessor will conduct on-site observations to evaluate your progress, as well as supporting you in college throughout your apprenticeship
- At the conclusion of your program, your qualification will be assessed through an End Point Assessment
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- 3 Other GCSEs (grade 4/C+)
- English (grade 4/C+)
- Maths (grade 4/C+)
Desirable qualifications
A Level in:
Law, English or Business Studies (grade C)Let the company know about other relevant qualifications and industry experience you have. They can adjust the apprenticeship to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements
A Levels or equivalent in Law, English or Business Studies would be preferred but not required. Within the first month, you will: Be familiar with accounts system and where documents are stored. Confident in dealing with telephone calls and passing on messages. Able to archive files. Confident scanning and copying documents. Franking post. Familiarity with names and roles of all members of staff.

Acorn Solicitors is a family firm of Solicitors with offices in Taunton and Street. They specialise in Conveyancing, Wills and Probate, Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection law. The firm is 16 years old and the two partners are David Sinclair and his mother Jill Sinclair. The firm is committed to giving younger people a chance to start in the law and has had 10 previous apprentices 4 of whom still work at the firm and 3 work for other law firms as paralegals. The firm strives to improve through constant improvements and aims to create a positive working environment for everyone.
