An exciting and rewarding opportunity to become a Learning Support Assistant in a special school setting. This position would allow you to gain the skills and knowledge to work with and support children and young people with a variety of learning needs and disabilities.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Under the guidance of the class teacher, you will support pupils in all aspects of their learning and assessing the curriculum.
- You will deliver learning activities to small groups and individuals as directed. Following the school's trauma-informed approach, you will promote positive behaviour and attitudes through high expectations
- You will attend to the personal care needs of pupils. This may include toileting, other hygiene needs, help with dressing and/or assisting with feeding as required
- All care needs are part of an individual learning programme and should be taught to promote independence
- You may assist with physiotherapy or speech therapy under the direction of the appropriate specialist
- You will develop leisure opportunities and supervise pupils at unstructured time to support the development of communication, physical development, social relationships and interaction skills
- You will support the teacher and contribute to the development and implementation of Personal Learning Plans (PLP)
- You will support the teacher in assessing and systematically recording pupils’ progress and achievements
- You will develop and extend learning opportunities based on pupils' prior learning
- You will efficiently prepare, maintain and use classroom teaching materials and equipment
- You will set up learning environments, which would include laptops, tablets, switch-operated equipment, displays and other learning spaces

Your training plan
- Support to achieve knowledge, skills and behaviours as laid out in the apprenticeship standard
- Support from an experienced assessor to assess work and practice
- Individual learning programme tailored to own needs
- E-learning, training and monthly tutorials specific to your apprenticeship
- Mentor and support in the workplace
- A minimum of 6 hours per week during paid time to be used for learning and development opportunities
- English and maths Functional Skills at Level 2 (if required)
- Support to achieve the End Point Assessment
- At the end of the apprenticeship, you will obtain the Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship
Requirements
Desirable qualifications
GCSE in:
Maths and English (grade A* to C or 4 o 9)Let the company know about other relevant qualifications and industry experience you have. They can adjust the apprenticeship to reflect what you already know.

The Chiltern School is an Area Special School in Central Bedfordshire; we cater for pupils from 3 to 19 years with a wide range of learning needs and disabilities. We provide a stimulating learning environment tailored to the needs and aspirations of the pupils who are taught in Learning Pathways. After this apprenticeship
Completion of the apprenticeship will enable apprentices to gain employment as a level 3 LSA within primary, special and secondary schools in both the state and independent sectors. There will be increasing opportunities for apprentices to take on a wider range of responsibilities. Opportunities also exist to move into other roles across the wider children’s workforce e.g. child care, play work or youth work.
