Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

As an Apprentice Teaching Assistant at WICK CE Primary School, you’ll play a key role in supporting children’s learning, development, and wellbeing across the school day.

Working alongside experienced teachers and support staff, your week will be varied, rewarding, and full of opportunities to grow your confidence and skills in a real classroom environment.

Here’s what you can expect in a typical day or week:

  • Support in the classroom: Work with individuals or small groups of pupils to help them understand tasks, build confidence, and make progress in subjects like reading, writing, and maths
  • Prepare learning resources: Help set up classroom materials, displays, and resources that support lessons and engage pupils in their learning
  • Assist with classroom management: Support pupils in staying focused, following routines, and managing their behaviour in a positive and constructive way
  • Contribute to a safe and inclusive environment: Encourage positive relationships, provide emotional support, and promote the school’s values and expectations
  • Support learning beyond the classroom: Help supervise break and lunch times, assist on school trips, or contribute to creative and physical activities such as art, PE, or music

You’ll be fully supported throughout your apprenticeship, with regular mentoring, training sessions, and opportunities to reflect on your progress. This is a fantastic way to begin a career in education while making a real difference to children’s learning and happiness.

You’ll gain valuable classroom experience, develop essential skills, and work towards a nationally recognised qualification all while making a real difference in young lives every day. If you're enthusiastic, caring, and ready to inspire the next generation, we’d love to hear from you!
