Summary

The Wire Apprentice is responsible for the assembly, wiring, and installation of electrical components and systems. This involves reading and interpreting technical drawings and wiring schematics to ensure accurate wiring, panel assembly and component installation. The Wire Person will also be responsible for, pre repair, inspection and compliance.

£14,526.20 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Choose one of the following work patterns, Monday to Thursday: 6:45am to 16:30pm 7am to 16:45pm 7:15am to 17:00pm 7:30am to 17:15pm 7:45am to 17:30pm. Lunch is anytime between 11.30am and 1.30pm for 30-minutes.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Working under supervision you will work towards being responsible for the following tasks:

  • The assembly wiring of electrical and electronic modules/units and electronic controls
  • All aspects of soldering and electronic components both by hand and machine
  • Cable harnessing and looming methods used in the electronics industry
  • Processes used in the manufacture and repair of printed circuit boards, including the coating of PCB’s
  • Carry out instructions Ensure Health and Safety standards are maintained show due diligence
  • Comply with company policies and procedures
  • Carry out reasonable requests to meet the needs of the business

Your training plan

Advanced Engineering Apprenticeships normally last four years during which time you will attend our Training Centre on day release followed by one day per week for basic training and Further Education.

The remainder of your time will be spent with your employer, training in Engineering. 

Wigan & Leigh will monitor your Apprenticeship on a regular basis to ensure you achieve the standards required including core skills, knowledge and occupational behaviours in preparation for End point assessment.
