Summary

Arlingclose is a successful City of London firm providing treasury and accounting advice to institutional investors across the United Kingdom. We are looking to appoint Level 7 accountancy apprentices to join our growing consultancy team to deliver quality financial and accounting advice to our public sector clients.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Assisting clients to produce financial statements in accordance with accounting standards and applicable legislation.
  • Analysing clients’ balance sheets and projecting cash flows in line with medium term financial plans.
  • Performing financial statement analysis on local authorities, housing associations, banks and other companies.
  • Valuing investments and debt for inclusion in clients’ accounts.
  • Analysing the performance of client investment portfolios and investment funds.
  • Summarising publications into advice notes for a non-technical audience.
  • Meeting clients and investment managers to understand their strategies.
  • Organising and attending client events.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Build trusted and sustainable relationships with individuals and organisations. Consistently support individuals and collaborate to achieve results as part of a team.
  • Influence the impact of business decisions on relevant and affected communities based on an appreciation of different organisations and the environments in which they operate.
  • Communicate in a clear, articulate and appropriate manner.  Adapt communications to suit different  situations, individuals or teams.
  • Identify ethical dilemmas, understand the implications and behave appropriately. Understand their legal responsibilities, both within the letter and the spirit of the law, as well as be aware of the procedures for reporting concerns over potentially unethical activities.
  • Take ownership of allocated projects and effectively manage their own time and the time of others.  Demonstrate good project management skills to deliver high quality work within the appropriate timeline. Act as a role model and motivate others to deliver results.
  • Evaluate information quickly and draw accurate conclusions. Assess a problem from multiple angles  to ensure all relevant issues are considered. Gather the appropriate facts and evidence in order to make decisions effectively.

Training schedule

  • Level 7 Accountancy Professional Apprenticeship with the internationally recognised Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) leading to qualified accountant status within three to four years.
  • With a focus on the public sector, the CIPFA syllabus includes green finance, environmental reporting and performance measures, data analytics, and ethical principles as well as the more traditional accounting and financial reporting areas.
  • Newly qualified CIPFA members can take an additional module and submit a statement of intent to qualify for membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and chartered accountant designation.
  • You will attend the CIPFA Education and Training Centre in person.
  • There are opportunities for further training relevant to the specific role.

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

at least 8 subjects including English and Maths (grade 6.5 average, inc. 7 in maths)

A Level in:

three subjects (grade A* to B)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
