What you will do in your working day

Apprentices will be working and training 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Under the direction and guidance of a Unitas team leader and supported by an external tutor, they will learn how to: 

  • Carry out annual servicing and gas repairs on gas boilers, gas fires and gas cooking appliances;
  • Install a range of gas fired central heating systems within tenants' homes;
  • Use authorised plant and equipment with due care and attention

The training you will be getting

Apprentices will train in the workplace under supervision and within teams of qualified gas engineers and with an external apprenticeship training provider.  They will be working in many different parts of the city in tenants' homes. Apprentices will be working towards successful completion of the Gas Engineering Operative Apprenticeship Level 3 standard. External training is likely to be on a day-release basis combined with some training on-line. 

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Successful apprentices will gain a firm start in a career as a fully qualified gas engineer with a good chance of moving into a permanent role with the city council.
