What you will do in your working day

  • Carry out repairs to the fabric of a building, for example repairs to walls, doors, door frames, skirting boards or plaster damage to internal walls
  • To carry out planned preventative building maintenance in line with set programmes
  • Understand and maintain plumbing and drainage systems, for example repairs to WC systems, leaking taps or water testing and unblocking drains
  • Understand and maintain grounds and external fabrication of a building, such as drainage and guttering
  • Understand and demonstrate the safe use of hand tools, for example screwdrivers, power drills, pliers, paper strippers and a variety of other tools used in plumbing and carpentry
  • Demonstrate and understand the importance of the control of resources and stock
  • Understand and demonstrate the principles of Planned Preventative Maintenance
  • Carry out repairs and reactive maintenance
  • Ensure disposal of waste from works and that the site it is left clean and tidy
  • Responsible for the health and safety of themselves, their work colleagues, and others who may be affected by their activity, working in accordance with the safety policies of Gardiners and clients
  • Carry out administrative tasks associated with the post such as completion of job cards, pronto forms, timesheets, photography of work, etc.
  • To take personal responsibility for any specific designated duties assigned to them, ensuring they are carried out, at all times, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • To carry out any other duties as may reasonably be expected of the post holder commensurate with the scope, spirit and nature of the job

The training you will be getting

  • You will work towards the Level 2 Property Maintenance Operative Apprenticeship Standard
  • The apprenticeship will take place at SGS College new 'Horizon' site in Filton, Bristol
  • Functional skills in maths and English (if required)
  • This is a day release Apprenticeship which also takes place at our South Gloucestershire and Stroud College Horizon 38 Campus , Taurus Rd, Filton BS34 6FE

This is a day release Apprenticeship apprentice would need to travel our Horizon 38 Campus, Taurus Rd, Filton BS34 6FE (Bristol) Have a full UK driving Licence and vehicle to get to college.
