We are on the look out for someone who is really interested in working with our lovely customers, and learning more about butchery. Ideally, they’d like to cook, be interested in the provenance of the animals and in developing their knowledge about running successful businesses.

    We would like you to work Saturdays as well, and would be paid in addition to your four days a week.

What you will do in your working day

  • Preparing the windows and counters before opening
  • Cleaning the large storage fridges
  • Serving customers and advising on cuts of meat
  • Preparing items such as koftas, burgers, kebabs, marinades
  • Preparing different cuts from whole animals
  • Cleaning the shop at the end of the day
  • Ensuring temperatures etc are recorder for EHO paperwork

The training you will be getting

  • Level 2 Butchery (GCSE)
  • Training in the shop and with MeatIpswich
  • On the job training

Qualifications include;

  • Level 2 Food Safety Award,
  • Level 2 Health & Safety in the Food Supply Chain Award,
  • and Level 2 Knife Skills Award prior to taking the end-point assessment.
  • Functional Skills Level 2 English and maths if required.

Delivery method and location of training has yet to be confirmed. 

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

We expect our apprentice to stay with us. Our current manager started working for us on Saturdays 10 years ago, and has completed his Level 2 apprenticeship and got his driving licence and worked his way up. We are looking for a committed person who would aspired to working their way up through the business.

Michael has owned Drings Butchers in Greenwich for 18 years, but the shop has been there probably since Greenwich Meantime was invented! We’re lucky that it’s thriving, alongside his other two businesses, The Cheeseboard and Ellis & Jones Fishmongers - all on the same street.
