What you will do in your working day

You will have an enthusiastic, supportive team around you to help you grow and develop your career in planning.

  • The Planning Compliance Team checks that developments have any permissions they require to proceed with their build. It also ensures fairness, stops unacceptable/unauthorised development, and gives communities confidence in the system
  • The Planning Delivery Team working with numerous planning teams monitors the development of sites, ensuring compliance with permissions and legal agreements.
  • he Strategic Sites Team, a dedicated and supportive team of approximately 20 experienced professionals, who are responsible for ensuring the delivery of a sustainable future for the City of Cambridge and the rural areas of South Cambridgeshire.  Officers oversee the management and delivery of large-scale projects relating to growth sites allocated in Local Plans. 

The training you will be getting

We're offering three opportunities for you to join us as either a Planning Assistant (Level 4) or Trainee Planner (Level 7) in different areas:

  • Planning Compliance Team
  • Planning Delivery Team
  • Strategic Sites Team.

London South Bank University for the Chartered Town Planner Apprentice Degrees at either Level 4 or Level 7 - PG Dip Chartered Town Planner (Degree Apprenticeship - Entry point 1), MA Chartered Town Planner (Degree Apprenticeship – Entry point 2) or MA Chartered Town Planner (Urban Design) (Degree Apprenticeship – Entry point 2)

As an apprentice you will receive time off work (6 hours per week) to complete your studies and will have a mentor and RTPI sponsor to help with your academic and work progression.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

  • An expected career path in the Planning industry working in Delivery, Strategic Sites, Policy, Urban Design or Built & Natural Environment
