What you will do in your working day

  • Learn metal sheeting and cladding techniques, including installation and maintenance.
  • Gain practical experience in felting methods for waterproofing roofs.
  • Master the application of liquid coatings for weatherproofing and enhancing roof durability.
  • Assist in roof inspections and repairs, honing problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborate with experienced roofers on various projects, fostering teamwork abilities.
  • Acquire safety knowledge and practices crucial for working at heights and handling roofing materials.

The training you will be getting

The apprentice will receive thorough training in roofing techniques, safety protocols, and material handling, culminating in a Level 2 roofing qualification. This certification acknowledges their proficiency in various roofing tasks, ensuring they're equipped for a successful career in the field.

We predominantly work in the Southwest, but occasionally undertake projects across the country. Transport can be provided from Bristol city center, or apprentices can commute to the site independently.

The apprentice will spend 4 weeks on site and 1 week at Junipers training centre in Walsall. This requires spending the week (Mon-friday)up in Walsall. Accommodation, breakfast and dinner is all paid for. Functional Skills in English and maths if required.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Fully qualified and highly skilled Roofer.

This can lead into a managerial role such as site manager or project manager. Other qualifications such as SSSTS and SMSTS can be completed.

On completion of this standard, apprentices will be eligible for employment in the roofing industry as a craft operative.  Apprentices may progress to supervision and management appointments in roofing organisations.

Things to consider

This job involves working outside all year round and manual labour. It involves being able to lift Felt rolls which weigh around 20kg. It may require working away Monday to Friday but this is rare. Once qualified the pay for a roofing is great.
