What you will do in your working day
As we move towards Net Zero as a nation and Government policy encourages us all to recycle more than ever before, there has never been a better time to join the waste and recycling sector.
FCC Environment is one of the UK’s leading players in waste and resource management. This includes everything from the collection of recycling and waste from homes and businesses, to operating the facilities that process the things we no longer need.
Duties will include, but will not be limited to:
- Working with the other members of the team ensuring that the equipment and plant on site is maintained and operational in accordance with company procedures and legislation.
- Performing routine planned maintenance activities, as training and experience permits on pumps/ cranes/fans/hydraulics and pneumatics, electrical and control systems, instrumentation and actuation
- Working in the workshop as well as out on plant
- Repairing faulty components.
- Inspecting and investigating reasons for equipment failure
- Fault finding: learn to use a logical approach in finding defects and causes for failures in various equipment
- Trained to prepare documentation to support work activities on the company computerised maintenance management system
The training you will be getting
You will receive the following training in addition to the Apprenticeship Standard:
You will attend college 1 day per week to work towards your Apprenticeship Standard in Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Level 3
- In-house training on all company policies and procedures.
- Training at the local college as required to complete the course material and associate assignments, should attain HNC or equivalent
- Safety critical and mandatory training as required for the job role within the business for example:
- COSHH
- DSEAR
- Manual Handling
- Compressed gas cylinder handling
- During later stages of the apprenticeship further training related to work activity will be undertaken to support the continual development
- Confined space
- IOSH
- Rigging & slinging
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Employment and progression within the Lincoln site or other FCC EfW facilities in the UK or overseas may be possible upon successful completion of the Apprenticeship and vacancies being available.

A number of the Lincoln site maintenance team are ex apprentices
- Develop educational status and experience levels in maintenance and engineering discipline to the point of ability which enables support for the maintenance/mechanical technicians and engineers
- Become a junior Technician
- Become an engineering Technician/Engineer
