What you will do in your working day
- To work with the horses and ensure they are well cared for and all daily needs met.
- To work with the riding school staff to ensure the yard runs smoothly and all daily jobs are done as required.
- To ensure horses are ready and well presented on time for all lessons, either Riding School or Therapy.
- To ensure the yard and surrounding environment is clean and tidy at all times.
- To work effectively alongside volunteers and all members of staff.
- To check all equipment is well maintained and fit for purpose. This includes vehicles, tools and horse equipment.
- On occasion prepare feeds, haynets, clean out stables and muck clear fields as part of your daily routine.
- Functional skills in maths and English (as required).
The training you will be getting
- This is a 100% work-based learning apprenticeship of which the successful candidate will be awarded the Level 3 Senior Equine Groom apprenticeship qualification.
- Maths and English functional skills, if required.
- There is scope for either the riding or non-riding pathway to be chosen and this will be discussed at interview.
- Enrolling on to an apprenticeship programme is a serious commitment. To achieve the qualification and be successful in your job you will need to be hard working, prepared to work outdoors in all weather and often at weekends.
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
- The successful applicant will have the opportunity to be able to enrol on to the BHS suite of qualifications, and to also have an introduction to specialist areas of the equine profession such as physiotherapy, farrier or equine dentistry.
