What you will do in your working day

  • To assist in keeping all areas of the school clean and tidy to provide a clean and safe working environment free from hazards and including undertaking emergency cleaning duties such as graffiti removal and spillages
  • To assist in the collection and disposal of waste
  • To provide a porterage service with the receipt, distribution, collect and despatch of goods ensuring that reception is clear at all times
  • To carry out site related tasks assigned to you and responding to queries; keeping customers informed of developments, issues or delays, escalating where appropriate and using the relevant software
  • To comply with health and safety and other legislation, policies, procedures and risk assessments, carrying out own risk assessments as required
  • To operate equipment correctly and safely in accordance with instructions
  • To provide support with fire alarms and evacuation in case of emergency
  • To perform regular routine Health and Safety compliance safety checks, eg: fire doors, emergency lighting, reporting any faults to the Site Supervisor/Assistant Supervisors
  • To report faulty equipment and other maintenance requirements to the Site Supervisor/Assistant Supervisors and assist in repair where required
  • To provide customer service to all areas of the school ensuring effective delivery of a range of facilities services
  • To liaise with colleagues in other departments, eg: finance, catering, cleaning and administration
  • To carry out routine maintenance tasks, such as minor plumbing and joinery tasks as well as internal decoration, and any other such tasks agreed as part of the routine maintenance programme
  • To make practical suggestions for improvement
  • To keep asset registers and stock information up-to-date, refilling and replacing consumables when needed
  • To operate CCTV/security equipment and other equipment when required in accordance with instructions and data protection
  • To support the organisation and movement of furniture and equipment for events
  • To maintain safe access of paths and doorways in the event of adverse weather
  • To undertake appropriate health and safety training required for the role
  • To work effectively as part of a team
  • To assist in maintaining the security of buildings by securing entrances/exits as appropriate and reporting potential security breaches
  • To assist with lettings of Trust facilities and attend to the requirements of hirers as appropriate
  • To work at other academies within the Trust on allocated days to assist site staff and undertake site-related tasks
  • To act as a keyholder for locking/unlocking and be part of the rota for call outs to ensure the security of the premises and its contents (to be confirmed at a later date once appropriate level of apprenticeship achieved)
  • As an apprentice, you will undertake a level 2 qualification in Facilities Services which will provide you with a strong grounding for a career in facilities and site management

About the employer
