Verian is one of the leading social research agencies in the UK. We have over 150 specialist researchers and are based in a fabulous, open plan office in Westminster, London, opposite the Houses of Parliament. That means we are in the heart of government, close to where our data is used to shape policy and decisions. It makes it easy for us to have collaborative face-to-face meetings with our clients and is a great place to come to work. Our work hits the headlines and helps shape government policy. We run projects like the Crime Survey of England and Wales, interviewing over 30,000 people each year about their experiences as victims of crime, on behalf of the Home Office. Our team helps government and public bodies understand the impact of their communications. This includes the NHS posters you see that encourage people to eat healthily and the Transport for London posters you see on the Underground reminding you to ‘mind the gap’. We also develop and evaluate government policy. For example, our evaluation of the Tampon Tax Fund assessed how the government used the money from tax on sanitary products to fund projects that improve the lives of disadvantaged women and girls. We lead the data collection for the Understanding Society survey, which follows people over a long period of time, helping us understand how life in the UK is changing and what stays the same over many years.
