What you will do in your working day
This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to gain first-hand experience of a variety of roles in a finance office and to develop their skills alongside their formal studies for AAT.
Responsibilities
You will spend time working with each section of the finance team supporting the department. This will provide a breadth of experience including:
· Accounts Payable
· Accounts Receivable
· Procurement
· Banking and cash handling
· Payroll and Studentships
During the course of your apprenticeship, you will develop skills and experience covering all areas of the finance function, so that you will be able to undertake a wide range of the duties of the post which in the first year will include the following:
· Develop skills and knowledge to carry out general administration for the Finance office
· Learn to deal with queries and direct them on to the appropriate person
· Learn to provide guidance on financial processes and procedures to staff and students
· Undertake training on the University’s Oracle Financials system and learn how transactions are entered and reports produced
· Develop skills to assist with Accounts Payable processes
· Learn to raise requisitions on the finance system
· Learn to work with suppliers to resolve issues and deal with straightforward queries
· With support, process simple invoices for payment
· Learn to complete and process Payment Request Forms
· Learn how to check that expense claims are completed correctly and have appropriate supporting documents
· Learn to reconcile travel advances
· With support, collate and process monthly timesheets from workshop technicians
· Learn procedures for scanning, filing and archiving of financial documents
In the execution of these roles and responsibilities the post holder will at all times:
· Abide by local and University rules and codes of practice with regard to Health and Safety.
· Work with discretion and confidentiality when dealing with personal data or information.

The training you will be getting
Duration:
- 13 months practical training period, plus 3 months for End Point Assessment
Delivery model:
- Work-based training with your department
- Day release during term time (approximately 1 day a week for a year)
- Level 1 Functional Skills in maths and English (7 days at college for each, if required)
- Off-the-job training will count for at least 6 hours per week of an apprentice’s time at work
Qualifications included:
- Level 1 Functional Skills in English and maths (if required)
- AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting
- Level 2 Accounts or Finance Assistant Apprenticeship
End Point Assessment:
- In-tray test
- Portfolio
- Structured interview
