What you will do in your working day
- Train in essential skills such as first aid, medication administration, and infection control protocols.
- Observe and learn from experienced caregivers, and gain valuable insight into best practices and techniques.
- Accompany healthcare professionals on rounds, participate in team meetings to discuss service user care plans, and contribute to the documentation of service users progress and needs.
- Assist residents with their daily activities such as dressing, bathing, and meal preparation.
- Engage in recreational activities with service users, provide companionship, and offer emotional support.
The training you will be getting
- Qualification Achieved: Healthcare Support Worker Level 2, including Functional Skills if required
- Location: Unit 3 Calton Farms, Beehive Lane, Chelmsford, CM2 8RL
- Location: T10 Bates Business Centre, The Old Brickworks, Church Road, Harold Wood, Romford, Essex, RM3 0JA
- Training Hours: A minimum of 16 hours per week
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
- Care Assistant or Support Worker: Apprentices may transition into roles as care assistants or support workers, where they will continue to provide direct care to residents under the supervision of experienced caregivers. They will have the opportunity to further develop their caregiving skills and expand their knowledge of the sector.
- Senior Care Assistant: With experience and additional training, individuals may progress to senior care assistant roles, where they will take on more responsibilities such as supervising staff, coordinating care plans, and assisting with staff training and development.
- Team Leader or Care Coordinator: Those with strong leadership skills and experience may advance to team leader or care coordinator positions, where they will oversee a team of care staff, coordinate care delivery, and liaise with other healthcare professionals to ensure residents' needs are met.
- Registered Nurse or Healthcare Professional: Some individuals may choose to further their education and training to become registered nurses or pursue other healthcare professional roles, such as physiotherapist, occupational therapist, or social worker. This may require obtaining relevant qualifications and licensure.
- Management or Administration Roles: For individuals interested in the administrative side of healthcare, career progression may lead to roles in management, administration, or quality assurance within care organizations. Responsibilities may include overseeing operations, managing budgets, and implementing policies and procedures to ensure high-quality care delivery.
