What you will do in your working day

Through in-depth training and support, you will be expected to become proficient in the following:

  • Manual Turning.
  • Setting and Operating CNC Machine Tools (in line with your capability/ progression).

Working within the Machine Shop you will be required to:

  • Read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Use various hand and power tools.
  • Become familiar with the use of a variety of measuring equipment, micrometers etc.
  • De-burr/polish finished parts.
  • Maintain the machine shop and machines as required.

You will also work alongside / observe other engineering areas of the company including; inspection and design (CAD) to broaden and underpin your general engineering knowledge.

Delivery Method

  • Apprentices will be released from work once a week to come to Loughborough College for additional training (Term Time Only).

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

You could become a Machine Tool CNC Setter/Operator. Previous apprentices have also gone on to work in the design office, in offline programming or in quality inspection.
