As an apprentice you will work under the guidance of experienced technicians and professionals to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become a successful air conditioning/refrigeration technician.

What you will do in your working day
Assist in Installation and Maintenance:
- Work alongside experienced technicians to install, repair, and maintain air conditioning systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings
Learn to Troubleshoot:
- Develop the ability to identify and troubleshoot issues in air conditioning systems, including diagnosing problems with compressors, motors, and other components
Follow Safety Protocols:
- Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols while working on job sites
- Learn and implement proper safety procedures to ensure a secure working environment
Gain Technical Knowledge:
- Acquire technical knowledge related to various types of air conditioning systems, including split systems, VRV’s, Water Chillers and refrigeration equipment
Collaborate with Team:
- Work closely with other team members to efficiently complete tasks and projects
- Learn to communicate effectively with team members and clients
Attend Training Programs:
- Participate in training programs and courses to enhance technical skills and stay updated on industry advancements and best practices
Assist in System Testing:
- Support in testing newly installed air conditioning systems to ensure they operate efficiently and meet performance standards
Maintain Tools and Equipment:
- Learn to properly use, clean, and maintain tools and equipment associated with air conditioning work
The training you will be getting
Level 3 Refrigeration Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard, including Functional Skills in maths and English, if required.
Tech cert:
- This programme includes Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems Diploma Level 2 and Award in F-Gas and ODS Regulations: Category I Level 2 and Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems Diploma L3
- This programme is delivered via a day release delivery model which means that one day per week, your attendance is required at our Construction campus, NG17. This attendance is required during term time only
- You will work with expert assessors to develop new knowledge, skills and behaviours within the profession
- You will experience a blended learning model
- You will gather learning evidence, journals and off-the-job records using your e-portfolio
- At the end of the planned learning period, it will be agreed that you are ready to enter 'Gateway' and for your End Point Assessment to be arranged
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
- At the end of the apprenticeship, there may be an opportunity to progress into a full time, permanent role
