What you will do in your working day
The aim of the apprenticeship program with Manthorpe Engineering is to train people to become skilled Mechanical Fitter who can then build a successful career within the company. To achieve this the apprentice will be paired with an experienced Mechanical Fitter who will ensure their skills and knowledge are developed alongside their college based training. This process will involve on the job training and will include:
Shadowing and working alongside one of our experienced Mechanical Fitters learning and performing tasks such as:
- Deburring
- Assembly of simple and complex mechanical assemblies across parts for Aerospace, Nuclear and Defence industries
- Problem solving
- A diverse range of mechanical assembly techniques and processes
- Elements of tool making where required to assist with the fitting process
The training you will be getting
Level 3 Engineering Fitter apprenticeship standard, including Functional Skills if required.
Tech cert : This programme includes BTEC Diploma in advanced Manufacturing Engineering.
This programme is delivered via a day release delivery model which means that one day per week, your attendance is required at our Engineering campus, NG17. This attendance is required during term time only.
You will work with expert assessors to develop new knowledge, skills and behaviours within the profession.
You will experience a blended learning model.
You will gather learning evidence, journals and off-the-job records using your e-portfolio.
At the end of the planned learning period, it will be agreed that you are ready to enter 'Gateway' and for your End Point Assessment to be arranged.
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
On completion of the apprenticeship it is expected that the qualified apprentice will be competent within Mechanical Fitting activities whilst working unsupervised, (although guidance and training will still be available).
We have a graded pay scale to reward further progression reflecting skills and experience. The business also has a track record of apprentices progressing to other roles (i.e. manufacturing engineering, sales, etc) as opportunities arise.
