    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that's part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

    Working Monday to Friday on a shift pattern, shifts will be between 7.30am and 6.00pm, e.g. you may start at 7.30am and go home mid-afternoon or start work mid-morning and finish at 6.00pm. Your working time will include study time.

What you will do in your working day

  • Providing a safe, caring environment for children in our care 
  • Promoting development through structured activities and free play time 
  • Supervising free play times 
  • Help with addressing problematic behaviour 
  • Planning learning activities around cultural or national events e.g. Easter, Christmas etc 
  • Ensuring policies are adhered to at all times e.g. safeguarding 
  • Ensuring record keeping is kept up to date 
  • Assisting children with personal care and hygiene where appropriate such as potty training and hand washing 
  • Assisting children with eating and drinking where appropriate 
  • Communicating effectively with other team members, parents/carers and, when required, external organisations such as OFSTED 
  • Any other duties that fit with your role within the team 

The training you will be getting

  • Early Years Educator Level 3 Apprenticeship
  • You will attend regular activity days on campus (college transport is available) with other apprentices approximately every 6 weeks.
  • You will also have workplace visits from your college instructor-mentor.
  • Your working hours will include study time.
  • You will spend time with children of different ages and be mentored throughout by an experienced team. 
  • Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification
  • Paediatric First Aid qualification

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

  • There is excellent potential for permanent employment, further education up to degree level and promotion to room leader/supervisor or diversify to a specialism such as SEN (special educational needs) or safeguarding lead.

Things to consider

Please consider how you will get to work each day, transport should be accessible and achievable. We have outdoor play sessions every day so you will need appropriate clothing. Clean, sensible shoes are a must. You will not be permitted to wear any loose jewelry (e.g. earrings should be studs not loops or dangling type) You should be confident in working with children and be able to follow Health & Safety policies as you will be working with some vulnerable children. DBS is essential (you will be supported to complete this)
