What you will do in your working day

Over the course of the apprenticeship, you will receive quality coaching and mentoring from our skilled engineers in the following areas:

  • Manual Machining – milling and turning
  • CNC Machine operation and setting – milling and turning
  • Assembly
  • EDM – Electronic Discharge Machining
  • Finishing specialisms i.e., deburring, lapping, rumbling, straight graining, ENP (Electro-nickel plating), bead blasting
  • Production Engineering (CAD/ CAM)

Daily Tasks:

  • Be responsible for the completion of daily work given
  • Ensure maximum productivity is achieved
  • Ensure that all produced parts are to a high standard every time by using colleagues, equipment and processes that are at your disposal
  • Inspect material and end products to ensure that all quality expectations are being met
  • Ensure general unit housekeeping (6S) is maintained.
  • Ensure company standards including quality and H&S are always maintained

The training you will be getting

The practical training period is the time dedicated to the development of the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours for your Apprenticeship which includes the following components:

  • EAL Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence) Level 2
  • EAL Diploma in Machining (Foundation Knowledge) Level 2
  • EAL Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Machining (Development Competence) Level 3
  • EAL Diploma in Machining (Development Knowledge) Level 3
  • Functional Skills Maths and English Level 2 (if required)

The apprentice would be assigned an assessor through the College, who would typically come out to visit in the workplace to assess workplace competence.

You will attend college 1 day per week and 4 days spent in the Workplace. Towards the end of the practical training period of apprenticeship the training will be all in the Workplace, preparing for the End Point Assessment.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

  • A fully qualified CNC Machinist.
  • Further progression may well be available in other areas within our sector, upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.
