What will the apprentice be doing?

Main purpose of job:

To support the customers and the department with administration duties. To deliver a professional, timely, efficient and friendly service to our customers both internal and external.

The Role:

As a Trade Counter/Sales Assistant, you'll be at the heart of our business, interacting with customers and providing top-notch service. Your training and responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting customers with their purchases and offering expert advice on products
  • Handling transactions accurately and efficiently at the trade counter
  • Maintaining a well-organized and tidy trade counter area
  • Supporting the sales team with administrative tasks and ensuring smooth operations
  • Identifying opportunities for upselling and cross-selling to boost sales
  • Building strong relationships with customers and colleagues, fostering a positive work environment
  • To provide support and assist where possible in answering and resolving day to day customer queries, including opening the post, answering the telephone and responding to emails
  • To comply at all times with the letter and spirit of the Company’s Health, Safety & Environmental Policy, Equality & Diversity Policy and Code on Business Conduct and Behaviour
  • Carry out such other duties as are reasonably requested by the jobholder’s line manager from time to time

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

We have Assistant Managers, Deputy Manager, Branch and Sales Manager positions to grow into upon completion of apprenticeship.

Things to consider

Long hours and an early start! Please note that start time is 6:30am but we do finish at 4pm Monday to Friday. Working occasional weekends You will be required to work one in three Saturdays from 7am to 11am.

About the employer

We are friendly family run roofing and building merchant business who have been trading for the last 40 years. Many of the team members who have helped to build and make the company what it is today have been with us for many years, some as long as 35 years! We supply materials mostly for roofing to roofers and builders through a mix of sole traders, home owners and larger corporate companies. We have three depots, Walthamstow being our head office with two additional depots in Enfield and Rainham. Our company employees around 25 members of staff across the three warehouses/ yards. Walthamstow is our head office and includes offices for the Directors of the company and for the Accounts Department also. Each depot consists of a Branch and Sales Manager, an Assistant Manager as well as Sales and Trade Counter Assistants (this is the role that we are recruiting for). Additionally each depot has a mixture of Team Leaders, Yard Foreman’s and Yard Operatives. The environment is fast paced, busy and dynamic. Our values mean that we look after one another and we welcome all new starters regardless of their prior experience. There is ample opportunity for growth within the company and we are looking for someone who shares a similar drive to join our lovely team!
