What will the apprentice be doing?


  • To assist with maintaining the Council Tax, Business Rates and Benefits database to ensure records are up to date and accurate.
  • Input and check information on the Sundry Debtor system.
  • Assist with the maintaining and review of reliefs, discounts and exemptions.
  • Check account information from system generated reports.
  • Issue demands and letters to customers using hybrid mail.
  • Contact with customers via telephone and email.
  • Use Microsoft Office packages where required.
  • Provide assistance during annual billing and financial year end.
  • To carry out other support tasks and duties as directed to maintain the efficient and effective running of the services provided.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Customer Service Practitioner level 2 apprenticeship 

This is a possibility to study towards Functional Skills if you have not achieved GCSE Maths & English 4/C or above. 

College attendance is 6 weekly with workplace visits from your college assessor mentor, you will also receive training in the workplace both on and off the job. 

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

There is potential for further training such as a level 3 apprenticeship alongside permanent employment. Many former apprentices are still employed by the Council Alliance.

Things to consider

This role will require you to travel between our Buxton & Leek offices. You will also need to complete a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS), you will be supported to do this.
