Summary

Charles Lovell & Co (a well-established independent Chartered Certified Accountants) are looking for an Assistant Accountant Apprentice for their Redditch office. The successful candidate will be given opportunity to progress their accountancy career via the apprenticeship route.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Assist with monthly and year end reporting of financial information (bank reconciliations, reporting on sales/purchases etc).
  • Maintain financial and accounting records including timely collation of data from a range of sources
  • Safeguard against suspicious activities (checks on new clients and suppliers)
  • Assist with the compilation of accounting and financial records (tax returns and audit documentation)
  • Deliver financial and accounting information and data to key stakeholders to ensure that key messages are communicated (month end reports, management accounts reports and missing or incorrect accounting entries)
  • Assist in the maintenance and use of digital systems by using software applications and packages (digital finance systems, Excel and HMRC portal)
  • Undertake continuous professional development including use digital systems, health and safety, cyber security, safeguarding, digital finance and GDPR
  • Collaborate with people both internally and externally at appropriate levels to ensure customer needs are met and professional and ethical standards are maintained (invoice queries, budget meeting support, processing expenses, customer records and audit support)

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Training schedule

Level 3 Assistant Accountant (AAT) is delivered 50/50 face to face day release in Worcester and Microsoft Teams. The successful candidate will also get support from a Learning Skills Development Officer (LSDO) who will carry out progress reviews and support End Point Assessment (EPA) preparation.

After this apprenticeship

On completion of Level 3 AAT the successful candidate will be given opportunity to progress to Level 4 AAT and potentially further accountancy qualifications.
